Photography Playdate

~By Nicole Cudzilo
Last week we had a photography playdate at the lake. Two other girls, students from Laurie's previous workshop were there, plus we had three other models besides ourselves to dress up and take photos of. In the end we decided to go for a circus-y theme, so Paige and I created fun make up looks to go along with the costuming. Here are some photos I took of the day.

Human Cupcake

By Nicole Cudzilo~

Last week was Sage's 5th birthday. We all dressed up and took photos, but the most fun happened when Paige was about to go and wash off her makeup from the shoots. She had just finished eating a birthday cupcake and had a little frosting on her face. Then she got the awesome idea of me decorating her face like a cupcake and taking pictures of her. We had so much fun! Paige even let Sage lick the icing of of her face!!! Five year olds can be so much fun!

Sage's 5th birthday

Yesterday was my niece's 5th birthday. Nicole and Paige came over and helped Sage and her friends decorate cupcakes and decorate Paige's face and maybe we can get a hold of some of the photos Nicole took of Paige as an edible cupcake. We all had a blast, dress up and photographing, we didn't know who was 5 and who were 18+.

Shoot Day With Laurie

This is Nicole Cudzilo, Laurie's intern for the year~

Yesterday we went out and did an impromptu shoot by the water. Bryce and I dressed up in costume and got to play around while Laurie took our pictures. It was like any other amazing session with her -except that she was sick. It was also extremely muggy out, the light wasn't perfect, and some of the costumes didn't fit. But Hal Tweedy, Laurie's Creativity Coach, always stresses the importance of going out and creating when you don't really feel like it. When you can work through your physical and emotional feelings through an art form, magical things can happen! Sometimes the images that speak the most are the ones that we've created in our times of unpleasantness or not-feeling-myself-today moments. It was very interesting to watch, as the model and an art student, the process of working through the turmoil. Laurie was not sure what she wanted when she started, but as time progressed I found her trying new things, and pushing through to get out of her comfort zone. In the end there were pictures she liked, and pictures she didn't, but each one was part of the journey towards getting the final shot. Sometimes that journey is uphill, sometimes it's down, but we could never fully appreciate our "Ah ha!" moments without our less than ideal, or sometimes all together rotten ones because that is where we find our true perspective and can really learn about ourselves.
