When you first meet Laurie Klein you might guess that she is a Creative Healer, but you would never guess her method -
Infrared PhotographyShe is known today as both a successful photographer with a signature style, and an instructor of healing workshops that celebrate womenby helping them re-discover their core purpose, strengths, passions and joys.
Her life long commitment to the art of photography began 41 years ago in high school. “I didn’t really discover my passion, my passion discovered me.” Laurie said.
Turning from just taking pretty pictures, Laurie sought to perfect her craft by attending the photography program at R.I.T. and then getting her M.F.A. from Ohio University.
“ At R.I.T I was studying Bio Medical Photography and I hated it. I had a “D” average in my major. The turning point came when the department head said to me ‘ I will pass you if you do two things, switch into the fine art program and go and study with Ansel Adams’. ‘ That works for me!’ was my answer to him”.
Ansel became one of her heros and mentors. He taught her that discovering one’s own artistic voice was the gateway to becoming a fine artist.
“Her style is unique, combining a wonderful ability for composition and a sensitivity to her subjects that will carry her to the top of her field. I can’t teach the way she sees and feels.”
- Ansel Adams
Today, she is recognized mostly for her signature infrared photography. Her work is held in private collections and museums. She is sought after for her exclusive commissions and extraordinary creativity workshops.
After a short marriage, she found herself with two small babies and the responsibility to raise them alone. That was motivation enough to step-up her
photography career, so she opened a photography studio. Photography allowed her to
plan her work around the needs of her two sons, Kyle and Bryce. “Necessity forced me to start selling my fine art, and to create art that commemorated seminal moments in peoples lives. I began a new phase of my career that I call ‘Life-Journey Photography’. I’ve been fortunate enough to have such loyal clients that I continue to photograph them and their families yearly, as they grow.” said Laurie. Many of her clients have become her good friends.
