Artist's Reception for Nicole Cudzilo's Solo Photography Exhibit entitled: "Wakeful Dreamers"

Nicole Cudzilo is a nineteen year-old local photographer. She has trained under the professional guidance of Laurie Klein- a protege of the great landscape photographer Ansel Adams. Nicole has been invited to show her work at a six week long exhibition at the mayor's office in the city hall in Danbury CT, in partnership with the Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance.
The exhibit is being shown March 4th-April 15th. City Hall is open Monday through Thursday 7:30am to 6:00pm.
Invite all of your friends and come down for some light refreshments and some photography!

This is a hands on model study workshop. Bring along someone you want to photograph, whether it is a grandchild, friend, spouse, acquaintance, or someone you found on Craigslist (kidding...kind of). We will spend the day learning the technique of posing, lighting, composition, and other elements in making a great portrait. Please share with us your ideas for clothing and props. We will also be reviewing and discussing the images we shot during the class.
Class requirements: Model and camera gear. Flash optional but encouraged. We'd love to see your past work so if you have a laptop please bring it!
Peters Valley Date: June 29 - July 1, 2012 (3 Days)

Level: Beginner and Beyond
Class Description: What’s your Niche? Every successful photographer has had to find a way to distinguish themselves from others. Defining that difference, or that niche, requires a in depth examination of a photographer’s art and where it fits into the market. Photographers learn how to access their niche market and discover the myriad ways to become profitable. There is ample opportunity for portfolio review, live shoots and marketing exercises. Students leave with greater clarity and a plan for the future.
Peters Valley Date: July 20 – 24, 2012 (5 Days)
Class Description: Photographing the human form creates unique challenges and opportunities. In this workshop, we will use the human form in the landscape to explore the many techniques for creating stunning images. By conducting daily shooting exercises, you will learn many posing techniques; explore relationships between your subjects and their natural surroundings. The pros and cons of black and white, infrared and color photography under these conditions. You will learn special pre-visualization techniques. In addition, there will be end-of-day group interaction, group critiquing and an opportunity for individual critiquing of your portfolio by Laurie Klein. Because of the sensitive nature of the subjects, this workshop is limited to serious imagemakers above the age of 18.

The other day, Laurie, her son Bryce, and I had a photo shoot; Laurie was going to photograph us, and I wanted to see what a model experiences when he or she is photographed for art. This would be different from portraiture because I hadn’t told Laurie what look I was after; it was more Laurie telling me how to fulfill her vision. But artists rarely have a vision without the materials in front of them. So when I asked Laurie what she had in mind, she didn’t have specifics formulated, but knew she was after something “edgy”. I realized that art simply starts with a general idea, and the models, props, etc. are transformed into making this idea work. Here, seaweed, sand, mud, and water became our natural props. Luckily nature can be transformed very easily, all depending on placement and amount. On the other hand, models are transformed through emotion, something a bit more difficult. So when Laurie wanted me to express anger, my immediate response was to laugh instead. After I had let go of myself, I was surprised by how in tune I got with feelings that weren’t existent before. The feelings weren’t necessarily anger because I need to work on this whole modeling bit, but I definitely noticed a difference in my attitude after visualizing what ambiance the photos needed to excrete. This experience showed me that when I photograph, I have the power to transform an environment into something completely different in order to express what I want. All I need are props and emotions. And before those two things, I just need one word, one adjective, to describe a vision: edgy.
